Model ASEAN

Model ASEAN is an academic simulation of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), where students take on the role of diplomats. In these conferences, student will represent different countries in ASEAN and engage in constructive discussion about current and pertinent regional issues.

Model ASEAN is a fun and innovative way of combining case-based instruction with experiential learning. Through our Model ASEAN programs, students will have an in-depth experience learning about diplomacy, sophisticated political concepts, and international contemporary issues. They will also learn about the ASEAN decision-making process, and gain a critical understanding of regional dynamics. They will also hone key skills such as research, public speaking, argumentation and presentation skills.

What is Model ASEAN all about?
During a Model ASEAN, students will learn about the decision-making process in ASEAN, how the ASEAN Member-States interact with each other, and the opportunities and challenges that ASEAN faces. Students will also gain perspective of how ASEAN as a regional organisation functions, and how it has contributed to the peace and stability of the Southeast Asian region for more than 50 years.

Global Citizenship Program

With the world becoming increasingly interconnected, individuals, communities and institutions no longer serve functions and roles with impact limited to their own cities and communities. Given this extensive globalisation, living and working in the 21st century demands that the individual have more complex skills and abilities than ever before. The Global Citizenship Programs aim to help our students understand the ever-changing world around them through multiple perspectives such as engaging lectures, seminars, field activities and project work. Students will be empowered with the knowledge of human cultures, gain understanding on personal and global responsibilities and develop their critical thinking, creative problem solving and communication skills.

Service Learning

Service learning is an approach in which academic knowledge and skills are applied to community service to address genuine community needs. This provides a pragmatic, progressive learning experience while effecting positive change in the community. In this program, students will gain insight into community and environmental needs, engage in activities and outings that address those needs together with structured opportunities for reflection to develop their civic mindedness and empathy. Students will experience interpersonal learning, in which they re-evaluate personal values and motivations as well as build a connection and commitment to the community. Cognitive development takes place during workshops where students are challenged to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills in complex situations to develop innovative solutions. At the end of the program, students will better understand social issues and how it is relevant to their own community, becoming proactive and responsible global citizens.
